Gracie del real
When I think of Gracie, I think of how she stands as an example of ambition sprinkled with humility. From the day I met her, her fortitude of spirit, sweet intelligence, and graceful poise made me look up to her as a role model.
Not only is she a model of character but as a business student as well who has been diligent in all the opportunities possible.
I asked Gracie some questions about her experience as a student and this is what she had to say -
What made you feel like you belong at Olivet:
Olivet is a place that draws you in in unexpected ways. For me, the professors and academic opportunities have made me feel like I belong here. Goals such as studying abroad, participating in finance clubs, and striving to be the best scholar I can be have all been encouraged and strengthened. Finding and having a community and institution that upholds the ideal that “you belong here” has been invaluable, and I am pleased to say that this has resonated with me more and more each semester.
What is your favorite memory at Olivet:
While there are many happy memories, one of my favorites at Olivet was the Christmas Party of my Junior year. It was a very full course schedule that I had accomplished, nearly all of my friends were also able to attend, and I had just submitted the official paperwork to study abroad in England the next semester. In that moment I was able to appreciate the faithfulness of the Lord and celebrate the things I had accomplished. Taking the time to rest in the moment, being proud of the progress I made and the adventures to happen, was special, made more special by being with people I cared about and celebrating their work as well.
Is there a person that has impacted you and how:
Two people have been instrumental in making my time at Olivet the best it could be: Prof. Nielsen and Dr. Mountain. The first is the faculty sponsor of the Investment Club, a professor who has taught many of my courses, and the mentor for my Honors Research Project. In each instance he has been consistent and diligent in ensuring I had the correct information and resources to create the best work I could. I am thankful for the patience, perseverance, and time that was invested in my work. The second person was a key reason why I was able to accomplish so much during my time at Olivet. Dr. Mountain is the Director of Registration Services, and he ensured I was able to transfer the correct credits as an incoming Freshman, successfully navigate covid requirements as a Sophomore, study abroad in Oxford as a Junior, and graduate on time as a Senior. He went above and beyond to help make my college experience what I wanted it to be, and I am so grateful.
